My passion for network marketing is because
I feel I completely understand it's heart. The following article is a rewrite of an
article that was written for "Diamond Net", a newsletter published by the
Possicks.
I Am Proud To Be A
Networker
I remember when I first started out in network marketing that I felt tongue tied when
people would ask me what I did for a living. I was always struggling to come up with some
impressive and clever statement that would create enough interest that I would be able to
start to share my opportunity with the person asking. I would say things like, " I'm
in the health and wealth business," or "I teach people how to create residual
income," or "I help guide people to financial freedom," etc. Now, I just
say, "I'm a networker." And I want to share with you what that means to me.
I believe that one of the key ingredients to building my organization to 16,000 people in 16 months is that I really love networking. And I love it with a passion. A lot of us have an opportunity and don't really capitalize on it. Why is that? Every one of us that works with my company has the same tools available to us, so what makes one person more successful than another? I believe it is passion, and I have a passion for my company, their vision, their products and network marketing. I have finally found a company whose vision harmonizes with my own, and I can express the totality of who I am. I have worked in other networking companies, but I never had as much success as I'm having now because my passion was never as complete, and there were always some areas I held back. I believe you have to be as proud of being a networker as you are of representing your company and sharing their products. It seems that in the other companies I either wasn't really passionate about the product, or maybe I never felt in alignment with the company vision. The result was that I never felt like taking big action steps and I didn't have the same level of faith that I have now. When I encountered challenges I couldn't manifest the energy I needed to create enough momentum to go through the blocks. If you look at your business and feel that in some areas you're stuck, my guess is that you'll see that your love is blocked in this area. If you hate follow-up, chances are you will be weak in this area. And if you don't love networking, you will be weak in sharing the opportunity with others. If you don't feel passion, how can you awaken others to be passionate? If you are having trouble finding builders, look at your own passion for building. Is it contagious? I believe mine is.
The company co-founders say that the greatest human need is the need to feel connected, and networking is about connecting.
They also said that not only is networking safe as a form of business, it is essential, because it will redistribute the wealth into the hands of caring people. To be successful you must first help others, for without others being successful, you can not succeed. Networking is about collaboration, not competition. There is no discrimination, for you can be of any color or creed, any height or weight, from any background, and with various degrees of education. And it is a powerful path for personal growth.
You owe it to yourself to become as knowledgeable about networking as you are about your company's products and the company vision, because they are all linked together. I think that almost everyone involved in network marketing has had a certain percentage of people react with some kind of negative attitude when the idea of network marketing or MLM comes up. One common thought is, "Is this one of those pyramid schemes?" What I have found is that as my passion and success grows, I get very few negative responses, but people generally seem to fear that which they don't know, so I believe that the reason people might not be attracted to our business is simply that they don't know anything about it. The next time someone asks you, "Is this one of those pyramid things?" you can say something like, "I don't know; is this Egypt?" or you can simply ask, "What do you mean?" When asked what they mean, I find people express a really unclear idea, and this gives me a chance to explain a bit about how I see our industry. When I share with people that, "I'm a networker," I than usually ask if they know what that means, because more often than not they think it has to do with computers. I prefer asking a question back of someone rather than answering in a defensive manner, because there is a more harmonious pathway of communication that opens up. So here are a few relevant facts and ideas about our industry that will hopefully help you understand yourself about our business, and in turn be able to educate others.
To me networking is what we do naturally when we want to share something we love with someone we love.
It is the purest form I know of free enterprise and a way of doing business that honors each individual, simply because it allows everyone the opportunity and freedom to be the best they can be. Currently America's fastest growing industry, networking, is the perfect place to live the purpose of helping others achieve success in their lives.
I ask people if when they see a good movie or read a great book, do they keep this to themselves or do they share it with their loved ones, and when they say they share, because they almost always say they do, I can say, "Well, you're what I would call a natural networker." Then I explain how they don't get paid for sharing this information, at least I don't. When I recommend a restaurant to friends, the restaurant doesn't give me a free meal, but that my company does pay me for sharing information about a product that I really love. Than I ask, "Do you like to sell?" and if they say yes, I say "Great, you'll love networking because it makes selling fun and easy, because it is more about sharing than selling, so it makes the hard sell softer," and if they say no, I say, "Great, because networking is about sharing and not selling." Often I will ask people if they like alternative medicine, or alternative education, because if they do I often find they are the kind of people drawn to some level of the opportunity I share. If they say no, I ask them why, but when they say yes, I simply say that networking is an alternative way of distributing product to the consumer, thus it is an alternative way of doing business. I than outline how our company has no middle men to pay because the product is only distributed by the distributors themselves, thus we also get to share in most of the profits. Network marketing companies pay a commission when people introduce their products to new people, and they continue to pay commissions as people continue with their use of the products.
I read that Mark Yarnell likes to ask people if they can retire before they die, and then shows them his opportunity to do this very thing.
There is a story that illustrates the concept of duplication in our business that I love. It goes something like this. One day a man was standing by a lake in India. It was the first day of the month and there was a water lily floating on the water. His guide explained that every day the water lilies would double, until at the end of the month, the lake would be completely covered with water lilies. The most amazing thing for him was that the day before the end of the month the lake was only half covered. This is similar to the idea of a penny doubled every day for 30 days. At the end of the first week, you have $1.28. At the end of week two, you have $163.84. And now the fun starts. The small, almost insignificant penny at the end of week three, doubled every day, grows to $20,971.52. After week four, or 28 days, an unbelievable $2,684,354.56. And the last two days 5 and than 10 million dollars. The first time I grasped this principle I couldn't sleep for days. I was introduced to network marketing principles through an opportunity in telecommunication sales, and the idea of making a few pennies on thousands upon thousands of calls took my breath away. The idea of compounded interest created through duplicating myself in network marketing, and thus creating residual income exploded every idea I had ever held about financial freedom and security. Not only did you create incredible income, as your income accelerated and grew so would your free time. I had always seen that people who created large businesses usually became slaves to their own growth. But in networking, the more people you help to grow successful businesses, the more free you actually become, because you have taught them how to do the business. And you can not become successful in network marketing unless the people under you have some measure of success. Isn't this the way it should be?
Your success is directly proportionate to how much you help others.
I would like to quote a paragraph from one of my favorite books, Being the best you can be in MLM,by John Kalench. "Network marketing drives people towards their destinies. It naturally accelerates your learning curve. It enables you to grow as a person faster and farther. It enables you to accomplish more and to contribute more to yourself and to your world. Network marketing is a system that provides you the opportunity to leverage your unique God-given creative abilities to have a dramatic, beneficial impact on the lives of hundreds, thousands, or even millions of other people! And it does this by virtue of it's own inherent, powerful and inspired natural design."
Most people stay in corporate America for job security, yet last year over one million white collar workers were laid off . . . that's 2,777 per day. Corporations are too busy trying to survive themselves and there are more than 9 million jobless Americans, victims of change they can not control. Through our own home based business we can regain control of our lives by taking responsibility for ourselves. Another thing that I love about our business is time leveraging. In other words, before I traded time for dollars. I worked as a fashion photographer, and when my day was booked for one client that was it. I couldn't sell the day twice. So if I wanted to make money, I had to trade my time, and there are just so many hours per day I can trade. If just a small percentage of my network just works one hour a day, say 1000 people, that's 1000 hours of work that get accomplished. If I was to work myself these thousand hours that's over three months of ten hour days, seven days a week. Our founders chose network marketing because like the product, it is clean and pure and offers hope to everyone. I believe that if you knew what I know about network marketing you would have the same passion for it that I do, and this passion would help to open the hearts of countless others to the truth, integrity, and magic of our industry. So study everything you can, subscribe to Upline 800-800-6349 (my favorite monthly newsletter, full of wonderful resources), and the next time someone says what do you do, tell them with love and passion in your heart that, "I'm in network marketing."
